This 365-day course will focus on expanding your English vocabulary by exploring ten words each day with a common etymological root. Each lesson will begin with an explanation of the root word and its meaning, followed by ten new words stemming from that root, along with their definitions, usage examples, and pronunciation guides.

Day 8 – Root Word: “Mittere” (Latin for “to send”)

  1. Transmit (verb): to send information or data from one place to another.
    • Example: The internet transmits data at lightning speed.
  2. Mission (noun): a task or purpose that is sent or assigned to someone.
    • Example: The astronaut’s mission was to explore the surface of the moon.
  3. Permit (verb): to allow someone to do something.
    • Example: The teacher permitted the students to leave early on Friday.
  4. Remit (verb): to send money to someone.
    • Example: I remitted my monthly rent payment to the landlord.
  5. Commitment (noun): a pledge or promise to do something.
    • Example: She made a commitment to finish the project on time.
  6. Admit (verb): to allow someone to enter a place.
    • Example: The bouncer refused to admit anyone without identification.
  7. Submit (verb): to present something for consideration or approval.
    • Example: The student submitted his essay to the professor for grading.
  8. Premise (noun): a statement or proposition that is assumed to be true.
    • Example: The scientist’s research was based on the premise that stars are made up of gas.
  9. Emitter (noun): a device that sends out radiation or other energy.
    • Example: The sun is a powerful emitter of light and heat.
  10. Intermittent (adjective): happening at irregular intervals, not continuous.
    • Example: We had intermittent internet connection throughout the storm.
