This 365-day course will focus on expanding your English vocabulary by exploring ten words each day with a common etymological root. Each lesson will begin with an explanation of the root word and its meaning, followed by ten new words stemming from that root, along with their definitions, usage examples, and pronunciation guides.

Day 6 – Root Word: “Manere” (Latin for “to stay”)

  1. Permanent (adjective): lasting forever or very long.
    • Example: The marker made permanent ink marks on the paper.
  2. Remain (verb): to stay or continue to be in a place or state.
    • Example: He remained calm despite the chaotic situation.
  3. Manure (noun): a natural fertilizer made from the dung of animals.
    • Example: Farmers often use manure to improve the fertility of their soil.
  4. Maintain (verb): to keep something in good condition or repair.
    • Example: It is important to maintain your car regularly to ensure its smooth operation.
  5. Manor (noun): a large house, especially one with a lot of land.
    • Example: The wealthy family lived in a sprawling manor with manicured gardens and a swimming pool.
  6. Manual (noun): a book containing instructions on how to do something.
    • Example: I consulted the user manual to learn how to operate the new software.
  7. Maneuver (verb): to move or operate something skillfully, especially in a confined space.
    • Example: The pilot expertly maneuvered the plane through the storm clouds.
  8. Monument (noun): a structure that is built to commemorate someone or something important.
    • Example: The Eiffel Tower is a famous monument that attracts millions of tourists each year.
  9. Immanent (adjective): about to happen or likely to happen soon.
    • Example: There is an immanent threat of war in the region.
  10. Remain (noun): the rest or remainder of something.
    • Example: After the party, there was a large remain of food and drinks.
