This 365-day course will focus on expanding your English vocabulary by exploring ten words each day with a common etymological root. Each lesson will begin with an explanation of the root word and its meaning, followed by ten new words stemming from that root, along with their definitions, usage examples, and pronunciation guides.

Day 4 – Root Word: “Facere” (Latin for “to make”)

  1. Fabricate (verb): to make or construct something, especially from artificial materials.
    • Example: The company fabricated steel beams for the construction project.
  2. Facility (noun): a building or room that is equipped for a particular purpose.
    • Example: The school has a new fitness facility with state-of-the-art equipment.
  3. Facilitate (verb): to make something easier or more convenient.
    • Example: The new technology facilitated the communication process.
  4. Feasible (adjective): possible to do or achieve.
    • Example: The project was deemed feasible after careful analysis.
  5. Affect (verb): to have an influence on something or someone.
    • Example: The weather can affect our moods and our plans.
  6. Effect (noun): the result of an action or influence.
    • Example: The new policy had a positive effect on the economy.
  7. Confection (noun): a sweet food, such as candy or cake.
    • Example: She made a variety of delicious confections for the holiday party.
  8. Defect (noun): a flaw or imperfection.
    • Example: The product had a minor defect, but it was still functional.
  9. Fiction (noun): stories that are not true.
    • Example: He enjoys reading science fiction novels.
  10. Manufacture (verb): to make something on a large scale, especially in a factory.
    • Example: The company manufactures cars, trucks, and other vehicles.
