Renowned ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas, known for timeless classics like “Chitthi Ayee Hai” and “Aur Ahista Kijiye Baatein,” passed away on Monday after battling a prolonged illness, as confirmed by his daughter Nayab. He was 72 years old.

Udhas, celebrated for his soulful renditions and playback singing in Bollywood films such as “Naam,” “Saajan,” and “Mohra,” breathed his last around 11 am at Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital, according to a family source.

“With a heavy heart, we announce the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February 2024 due to a prolonged illness,” Nayab shared on Instagram.

The final rites are scheduled for Tuesday.

Pankaj Udhas, with his mesmerizing voice and profound lyrics, released numerous albums and enthralled audiences worldwide with his performances at concerts.

His remarkable contributions to music earned him accolades, including the prestigious Padma Shri award in 2006.
